Public Education Grant
In 1995, the Texas Legislature created the Public Education Grant (PEG) program. It permits parents of children assigned to attend schools that meet certain criteria to request a transfer for their children to other schools or other districts.
No later than February 1 following the release of the final PEG list for the upcoming school year, or as determined by TEA, districts must notify the parents of students assigned to a campus on the PEG list of their eligibility to request a transfer. Districts that accept these transfer students (known as PEG transfers) receive weighted funding for each PEG transfer.
Update August 2025: Due to the delay in the release of 2022-23 and 2023-24 ratings following judicial review, the Final 2025-26 PEG List will be released on August 19, 2025. The deadline for districts to notify parents of students assigned to a campus included on the Final 2025-26 PEG list is September 1, 2025. Due to the timing of the release of the 2023-24 ratings, the preliminary 2025-26 PEG list includes campuses that received an overall scaled score below 60 on the final 2023 A-F accountability ratings.
